Dev Log #1: Beginning My Game Development Journey with Legions Survivor ๐ŸŽฎ


Hi everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹ My name is Cesar Torres  I'm a beginner game developer diving headfirst into my first project. After weeks of planning, brainstorming, and figuring out what to create, Iโ€™m excited to announce my game: Legions Survivor! ๐ŸŽ‰

Game Concept: Legions Survivor โš”๏ธ

Legions Survivor is an intense, wave-based survival game where you face endless legions of increasingly powerful enemies. The game's core is experimenting with different skill combinations โœจ and upgradeable abilities ๐ŸŒŸ to survive longer than ever before. It's fast-paced, challenging ๐Ÿ”ฅ, and (hopefully) a lot of fun!

The Journey So Far ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

As a beginner, even the simplest tasks turned out to be much harder—and more time-consuming—than I expected. ๐Ÿ˜… Hereโ€™s a quick look at what Iโ€™ve been working on:

  • Basic Game Level: Setting up a basic level environment ๐Ÿž๏ธ was a challenge, but Iโ€™m happy with what I created!
  • Game Camera: ๐ŸŽฅ Getting the camera to work just right involved a lot of trial and error. I plan to experiment with this down the road but for now, it will allow me to test and present a playable game. 
  • Player and Enemy Scripts: ๐Ÿ‘พ Basic scripts that set the base ground for gameplay, for now, these scrips allow both the enemy and the player to move and receive damage. Additionally, the player also spawns a projectile (this will be it's starting spell in the future but for now it does nothing).


Defining the Scope and Working Smart ๐Ÿ› ๏ธโœจ

As a one-person team, I knew I had to define the scope for the first demo carefully to make it achievable. Outsourcing assets and using tools from the amazing developer community ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ have been key to speeding up development and keeping me focused on core gameplay. From character models to Visual Effects, leveraging pre-made resources has saved me countless hours—and I'm grateful for these tools that make indie development possible! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Whatโ€™s Next? ๐Ÿš€

Iโ€™m just getting started, but thereโ€™s so much more to build. My next goals are:

  • Creating an Enemy spawner ๐Ÿ‘พ๐Ÿ‘พ๐Ÿ‘พ.
  • Create the first spell for the player a Homing Projectile ๐Ÿš€โœจ.
  • create UI elements for HP and experience๐Ÿ’–.
  • Add pickupable objects that spawn when enemies are killed(Heal and XP drop๐ŸŽ).
